Yup. Your eyes are not deceiving you. This is what is sitting in my digestive system right this second and the digestive system of each of my precious little people…even my twenty-month-old. Why would I ever feed my children this food (and I use the term loosely here)? Because today is my six-year-old’s birthday and this is our Birthday Tradition.
Each morning, I feed my children a nutritious, whole-foods meal. In the winter, we mostly eat a hot cereal of organic, whole-grains. In the summer, we eat more homemade granola, fruit salads, yogurt, etc. Both seasons, we have eggs and toast sometimes, too. I rarely buy any kind of cold cereal, as I find them to be highly processed and really not all that nutritious, despite the claims on their labels.
Birthdays, though, are different. For a child’s birthday in our family, he or she is allowed to go to the grocery store with Mom and Dad and choose out any awful, artificially-coloured, sugar-laden ‘cereal’ he/she would like. This has been a really fun tradition for all of us, though I always cringe a little (okay a lot) when I see my 1 1/2 year old shoveling the manufactured goodness into his mouth and saying, “Mmmmmmmm!”
As a child, I was sometimes jealous of the other kids who would talk about eating Captain Crunch or Golden Grahams for breakfast, knowing my mom would never in a million years buy any of these cereals. Our kids have had a lot of fun getting to try out these normally completely taboo foods. I have to admit, it has been a lot of fun for me, too.
However, it is also a humbling experience to run into acquaintances at the grocery store with a huge box of Froot Loops in your basket.
I have that in my Belly right NOW! I keep a box of cereal at work for those afternoon snack cravings. I figure a small serving of sugar coated cereal is a little teensy bit better than having chips or a chocolate bar or something 😉
I’m a Grown UP FrootLoops Girl!
That is to funny! We do the same thing. The kiddos get to pick a birthday cereal and get the prize inside!
I pray you are feelin better!
Oh abd Happy Birthday to your little one!
Blessings,
Georgiann
Oh my goodness!! We did the same thing too. Most of my kiddos are married now, but still have two at home. They don’t like cereal at all now! We did do this same thing while they were growing up, and the favorite cereals were Cocoa Puffs and Cocoa Krispies! Chocolate is a vegetable, right?!! 🙂
Have a great day!
Anne
i loooove cap’n crunch – so much so i even know how to spell that brand name 🙂
we, too, throw nutrition out the window and wake each BDay child with a candlelit cake and everyone singing: Happy Birthday to you.
then we sit on the floor of that child’s room, dole out cake, and i tell them their birth story. yesterday was pepper’s 11th.
We have Nutri Grain for birthdays and Christmas, I so know what you mean, if I see a friend in the supermarket I have to resist the urge to throw myself on the box in an attempt to hide it.
Just came by to say Happy New Year~
My thoughts and prayers are with you~\
Peace and Joy,
Georgiann
Sorry to be away! Our computer crashed and I am not online. I am currently using my dh’s work laptop and it is very tedious to type on. My brother will be building a new computer for us hopefully within the next week.
Happy New Year to you, too!
My friend let me know that you were posting again and about your miscarriage and natural healing.
I too just recently had a miscarriage. I lost our 2 little ones in November. I wish I could say it was easier emotionally than my other 2 miscarriages, but it has been far worse.
It has been a difficult journey, but one of grace. God is good and has carried me through.
I was reading what happened to you and wow, scary! I had a missed miscarriage as well. I wanted to miscarry naturally against all the medical advice we were given. We ended up doing the drugs and had the babies at home. It was difficult and scary but I think it ended up being far safer than if I had miscarried naturally. I probably would have bled out. The drugs did seem to do an efficient job.
However, my bleeding has been strange and unusual since. I am starting to wonder if everything is okay. I am going to look over your list of things that you did and see what maybe I should implement as well. Thank you for posting it all.
May God continue to heal you physically and I am truly sorry for all that you have endured.
Take care.
What a story! I am so sorry to hear that it has been so hard on you emotionally. I think that is far more difficult than a rough time physically. I can’t type a lot right now as I am using my dh’s laptop and find it very difficult to type on without deleting something or making a bunch of mistakes, but I did want to acknowledge your post as it really touched me.
In terms of bleeding, I have had three periods since the miscarriage and the first one was extremely long, which is when I saw my naturopath and she recommended several supplements, as I said in my other post. The next period lingered on awhile, but not nearly as much as the first and the last one was almost normal. I am very surprised to not be pregnant, yet, but am trusting that God knows what my body needs. I don’t know what to say about your situation. It might be worth seeing a good naturopath, if you have one, who can support you through everything.
Dear sister, I am terribly sorry. As my sweet friend says about our miscarriages, God help our hurting world that women can not even carry a pregnancy to term. I am so much looking forward to the time when He remakes our world.
With so much love,
Christine
Well, I guess I typed more than I thought I could. Maybe I am getting used to this computer!
Just came by to say hi~
I pray you are doing well and that your computer gets fixed soon:(
Peace and Joy,
Georgiann
Thanks! I am all fixed up now! I am going to do some catching up with things and then, hopefully, write a blog post or two. 🙂
